General Information

What’s this all about?
The goal of this project is to remember and honor the sacrifices of our veterans and their families. We do this through the placing of donated evergreen wreaths on veteran’s graves.

How did it start?
In 1992, the owner of a wreath company in Maine had a large number of unsold wreaths at the end of the holiday season. Remembering a boyhood visit to Arlington National Cemetery and the impression it made on him, he offered to donate the wreaths to Arlington, and they were placed on graves in an older section of the cemetery. He continued to donate wreaths to Arlington each year, and his generosity led to other groups volunteering to help with the process of transporting and placing the wreaths. These other groups expressed interest in honoring veterans by placing wreaths on graves in their local cemeteries, and from that Wreaths Across America was born.

Who is Wreaths Across America?
Wreaths Across America (WAA) is a non-profit organization created in 2006 to coordinate the process of sponsoring, ordering, shipping, and placing wreaths on veteran’s graves. They also produce a variety of educational materials to help promote their goals of Remembering, Honoring, and Teaching about the importance of service and the price of the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families.

How did Civil Air Patrol get involved?
A local Civil Air Patrol squadron in Maine offered to volunteer with transporting and placing the wreaths at Arlington. From that simple gesture, a partnership was formed that now involves thousands of members in Civil Air Patrol units all over the U.S.

How many wreaths are placed on veteran’s graves each year, and where are they located?
The numbers vary depending on how many sponsorships are received, but there are hundreds of thousands of wreaths placed on graves each year. In addition to Arlington, there are over 1,100 participating cemeteries across the U.S. There are also several military cemeteries overseas who participate each year, including the large World War II cemetery at Normandy, France.

Where will a wreath that I sponsor be placed?
All of the wreaths sponsored through Texoma Composite Squadron will be placed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.

Why are all of the wreaths being placed at Cedarlawn? Why can’t I choose which local cemetery my wreath goes to?
We can place wreaths only in cemeteries that have agreed to participate in the program. In our area, Cedarlawn is the only participating cemetery.

I would like to have a wreath placed on a specific veteran’s grave at Cedarlawn. Can you do this?
Contact us to discuss your needs and we will do our best to work with you.

The Remembrance Ceremony

Please tell me more about the wreath-laying ceremony.
On the morning of Wreaths Across America Day (for 2017 the date is Saturday, December 16th), the wreaths will be taken to the participating cemeteries and placed on the graves. At 12 noon Eastern time (11am locally) the formal Remembrance Ceremony will take place nationwide. The specific format of the ceremony may vary by location, but all of them have the same purpose – to honor the service and sacrifices made by all veterans.

The ceremony is open to the public, and everyone is invited to attend. We extend a special invitation to veterans and their families to join us.

Sponsorships and Orders

What are the options for sponsoring a wreath, and how much does it cost?
Although any quantity may be ordered, there are several basic offers:

  • Individual wreaths are $15.00 each
  • Family Package of 4 wreaths is $60
  • Small Business Package of 10 wreaths is $150
  • Corporate Package of 100 wreaths is $1500

I would like to sponsor a wreath. What forms of payment do you accept?
We can accept cash, checks or money orders; but, since all of the money collected is sent directly to WAA, we would prefer checks. Checks and money orders should be made to “Wreaths Across America” – please DO NOT make them out to Civil Air Patrol.

I would like to sponsor a wreath and pay with a credit card. Can I do this?
Yes, absolutely! Credit card orders can be placed through our group’s sponsorship page on the WAA website. You may also call WAA directly to place an order; if you do, please indicate the location code TXCMPS and the group ID code TX0010P so your wreath will be delivered to the correct location.

I am unable to personally give you my order. Can I still sponsor a wreath?
Yes, of course! You can either place an order online through the WAA website or call WAA directly (see the previous question above), or you can print a copy of the order form from the Forms page on our website, fill it out, and mail it with your payment directly to WAA. All of the information WAA will need to send the wreath to us is already printed on the form.

Is my sponsorship tax deductible?
Yes. WAA is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All sponsorships are classified as “charitable contributions” and are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law. It is always a good idea to consult with a tax professional.

What is the deadline for sponsoring a wreath?
We can accept sponsorship forms through Friday, November 17. However, you can continue to order online through Thanksgiving.
